Biography>>>>

Michael Battalio is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Meteorology at Mississippi State University.  He graduated in May 2010 with a double major in Geoscience (Professional Meteorology) and Physics along with minors in Mathematics, Communication, and Piano Music.  He has maintained a 3.97 GPA and has received numerous scholarships and fellowships including a Fellowship from the American Meteorological Society, assistantships from both the Meteorology and Music Departments, the S-STEM fellowship from the National Science Foundation, the AccuWeather Scholarship from the National Weather Association, and the Rodriguez Scholarship from the American Meteorological Society.

On the lighter side of things, he spends time gardening and particularly enjoys roses, daylilies (of which he has a registered variety), and orchids.  He plays the piano, organ, saxophone, and cello.  He was head drum major for the Famous Maroon Band, the marching band at State, for three years and is an assistant overseeing the drum majors.  He is the pianist for St. Joseph Catholic Church in Starkville.  He enjoys arranging and composing.  He listens to mostly classical music, and his favorite composer is Brahms.  Other hobbies include astronomy, investing, and for lack of a better phrase, fiddling with computer stuff.  He also runs Battalio Weather, a simple weather website. Additionally, he has developed MBWeather, a simple weather program for Mac OS X.  He considers himself reasonably artistic-not creative, but artistic.  He also loves mint chocolate chip ice cream, unsweet tea, coffee (cream, no sugar) and sherry.  He also enjoys writing and sharing his thoughts on the world on his blog.
